July 15th, 2011 Police arrested 3 people in Gangjeong

The police arrested 3 people (Professor KangHo Song, Villager leader Dong Kyun Kang, and Village committee leader Kwon Il Ko). When we rushed to police station, the police locked the door and deployed so many police men to prevent anybody including the journalists to enter the police station. According to SPARK(a peace organization in Korea), it's not a legal action. That journalist who was blocked outside got angry saying he worked as a journalist for 15 years, but he never be prevented entering like today. 

 She is asking a simple response from the 3 who got arrested that whether they had time for eating breakfast before arresting, and we, their people, all are here outside.

 Just a few of people, but a huge number of police.

 More police came.

 Is that right that people cannot even enter the outdoor of police station?

 These 3 people got arrested before the trial. We heard from police that the trial will be postpone to 11:00 but when we arrived 11:00, we realized that they had started the trial from 10:00 according to the original schedule, so the trial was ended when we arrived. The next trial will be August 5th.

The villagers of Gangjeong waited outside. They have been waiting since 2007.

 Then we moved to governor of Jeju office. Outside of it, in one of the sign which is intended to show the beauty of Jeju showed the "Tiger Island". Actually, the beautiful Tiger Island is just located around the Gangjeong. If naval base will be build, how the Tiger island will be?

 People were waiting for the appointment with the governor of Jeju in 16:00. All of us sit on the floor and ate lunch. I wonder since 2007, how many times, the Gangjeong people have to suddenly leave their work and gather to protect their village, and for this, how many times they sit and ate like this. How many times? 

Around lunch time, in Seoul, national committee against Naval Base also held a press conference to ask government to release the 3 people. 

16:00, we wanted to send 10 representatives of Ganjeong villagers to meet the governor. But the governor wanted to meet only people from Gangjeong village not other helpers from outside. So we had disagreement again finally they accepted the 10 people who were selected by villagers. 

Other villagers waited outside for the results from the 10 representatives.

 A hard working person for this issue encouraged villagers not to be afraid of the threat of trial and fine. Even though some of leaders may get arrested, more people will come after.

 Finally, the 10 representative came out and announce the results. The governor of Jeju said that he will communicate with police and suggest to police to release the 3 people, but also he emphasized that actually himself didn't have the right to release them. About the illegal or wrongdoing of  navy, they will try to investigate too. 

Now the villager leader Dong Kyun Kang was released. But Bro Song and Bro Ko are still arrested. Choi, Sung Hee is also still in the prison.
